We support performance and programming for a wide range of environments and believe art can animate and engage community like nothing else!
In 2000, founding artists of the Blue Theatre set out to elevate cross-disciplinary communication in the Austin artistic community by providing space and resources for resident and visiting artists to develop new works and theatrical classics.
Since its inception, Resident Artists have created collaborative, multidisciplinary theatrical productions bringing together local artists working in a wide array of disciplines to showcase the fruits of their collaboration.
In 2007, we deepened our commitment by providing even more opportunities for up-and-coming playwrights and cross medium artists to have their work produced, in helping our community to nurture its place as a world-class arts destination, to providing local, national and international educational, outreach and mentoring opportunities, and to bringing artists from around the world to develop their work in our great city.
Today, the Blue Theatre Artists-in-Residence Multi Arts Collective is a workforce of cross-disciplinary artists, collaborators and mentors committed to new works of performance and art.
Our Mission: To create artists’ collaborative opportunities and mentoring relationships between local and visiting artists. To promote the potentials of cross-disciplinary collaborations that facilitate new works of art, theatre and film. To spark creative partnerships between artists and their community while incubating artistic growth through mentoring and arts education outreach and initiative projects. To develop in-house projects that allow artists to gain experience and exposure.
To date: The Blue Theatre is a 100% artist-operated, multi disciplinary performance space, art gallery, theatre and filmedia studio on East Austin’s warehouse arts circuit.
Blue Theatre is a sponsored project of the Greater Austin Creative Alliance, a 501(c)-3 non-profit organization serving Austin’s thriving arts community. Your charitable donation is tax-deductible and makes a difference to the arts in Texas.
